#132 Exclusive Fashion Week Tidbits - Karen Inderbitzen Waller

As I've already mentioned, Karen Inderbitzen Waller is New Zealand's stylist extraordinaire. What I hadn't mentioned was that she's just added Nom D to her show schedule this year. To put it mathematically, styling Stolen Girlfriends Club plus Lonely Hearts plus Nom D equals heart-attackingly busy week for Karen. Read on to see how she does it, and what her favourite part of the week is – you might not be too surprised.

What do you like right now? Repetto shoes, Kate Sylvester chain necklaces, Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, The Curfew Girls, Gordon Ramsay, honey flavoured vodka with apple juice, French singer Camille, Zambesi's two-tone brogues, Rialto channel, French food, Sophie Dahls new book Playing with the Grown Ups.

What are you inspired by when you style shows? Lots of different things, especially when I am working on more than one show, and often ideas or images that I have had stored in my mind that I finally can do something with! Its a really creative time of year where I get to research a lot, and look at lots of different films, books and images, I love it.

I hear you just got back from France. What did you do over there and did you bring anything exciting back? I took a holiday and shot for Fashion Quarterly in Paris. I always seem to be weighed down with far too much luggage especially since I mostly buy books and magazines.

You're styling Lonely Hearts and Stolen Girlfriends Club at Fashion Week. What's your trick for making streetwear look exciting on the catwalk? Well I try not to think of anything as purely streetwear and more about the shape and feel of the collection and always aim for a show that has interest the whole way. I think clothes have to be put together in an interesting or inspiring way to create an impact and not look like boring old clothes walking the runway.

What's the most exciting thing about Fashion Week for you? I would have to say the end, its a week of hard work and too much champagne. I usually need to take a holiday to recover and not think about fashion for a while!
