I was tagged into this chain blog by Nicole Glavan of the witty and constantly entertaining Piccolo Niccolo blog, and since I don't want seven years of bad luck (or something disastrous to happen to a member of my family), but more importantly since it's about time you, my dear reader, got to know me a bit better, I'm going to give it a try.
And heeeeeeeeeeere we go.
1. Despite having a university degree in the subject and having seen more films than just about anyone I know, it's not the deep, hard to understand, intellectual thought pieces that get me going, but the frivolous, the fun and the downright fruity. I love dance movies. Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Flashdance, Step Up 2 The Streets, and my all-time favourite, Center Stage. Nothing excites me more than a climactic dance-off, and I've often been known to spend several minutes (or hours) after the film finishes attempting to emulate the moves. It's not just dance films though, I'm a sucker for musicals too. My favourite is Les Miserables. I've seen it three times, most recently at the Queen's Theatre in London's West End. I bought the tee shirt and have worn it most days since.
2. I love lamp.
3. About two years ago when I realised I could finally grow something resembling facial hair, I took the fool's option, and did. The result was something reminiscent of a 13 year old Mexican boy who'd had depilatory cream left on parts of his face at random intervals. I've since found joy in the traditional gentlemanly pursuit that is shaving, and now do so every two days with a vibrating Gillette razor, shaving bowl and brush. It's generally the highlight of my day.
4. My favourite food of all time was and probably still is Guacamole Dip – only I wouldn't know, because a few years ago I decided I really hate eating raw onion. It's the smell. I had the perfect recipe: Mash two avocados. Add: the juice of one small lemon; half a red onion, finely chopped; a teaspoon of ground cumin seed; lots of salt and a bit of pepper. Combine and chill, garnish with coriander. Eat with CCs. I might bite the bullet and make some today.
5. I'm a Baha'i. The Baha'i Faith is a world religion. Its purpose is to unite all the races and peoples of the world in one universal Cause and one common Faith. Right now Baha'is around the world are focussing a lot of attention and energy on developing moral education initiatives for children; encouraging young adults to participate in service projects; teaching people the fundamental message of the Baha'i Faith through a series of books that touch on such things as prayer, morals, life after death and the history of the Baha'i Faith; and inviting friends to meetings where people of every religion or background can worship and pray together. I sometimes find it scary to tell people that I'm religious for fear of being viewed as a weirdo, but at the end of the day, it's a big part of who I am and so here I am shouting it from the rafters (or the safety of my little blog).
6. I spend an absolutely disproportionate amount of time thinking about clothes, models, fashion shows, designers, shoes, collections and fashion gossip. I'm a man obsessed. Most days when I find myself at a loose end I'll go online and look at anything I can find relating to the aforementioned. My favourite websites are men.style.com, models.com, BryanBoy, Frockwriter, Gawker, Jezebel and The Sartorialist.
7. My big plan for 2009 is to get myself a reality TV show. I'm going to be travelling to the international fashion weeks (and hopefully film festivals) for the next couple of years, and I think it would make for a pretty entertaining TV show for a camera crew to follow this unknown nobody 24 year old from New Zealand attempting to gain entry into the hardest to get into shows and parties, and attempting to interview the hardest to reach people on the globe. Watch this space!
That's me. I hope you found that educational. I'm tagging the following seven people, you all have to respond or be destined to a life time of doom.
1. Bryan Boy
2. Imogen Wilson aka The Girl with the Kaleidoscope Eyes
3. Hannah McArdle aka Aych
4. Patty Huntington aka Frockwriter
5. Petra aka City of Petra
6. Natalie and Zoe at I Love We Love
7. Molly aka Musette
