#291 NZ(ers) 4 NYFW UPDATED 12/02

While scanning through the New York Fashion Week show packages on models.com, a couple of names caught my eye: Kiwis (and agency mates) Michael Whittaker and Georgia Fowler. Whittaker and Fowler, both with Clyne here in New Zealand, are over in New York (for what I believe is their debut show season) with DNA and IMG respectively. No word yet on whether or not they've picked up any bookings. I did manage to have a talk with Whittaker in the weekend though, who said he'd been going to seven or eight castings a day, and had received positive comments from casting agents so far.

The hair cut he's been rocking (as seen above) for quite sometime now – a military-style buzz cut with extremely short sides and back and a slightly longer top – has also been seen recently on the catwalk at Givenchy in Paris. Whether or not Givenchy took inspiration from Whittaker is unknown, but word on the street is the New York designers are loving the do.

Also in New York for Fashion Week is New Zealand's only designer showing regularly on a major international schedule, Karen Walker. Walker's show will take place at 3pm on Saturday 14 February, so I'd expect photos to be up on style.com later that day or the next. I sent the KW team an email to ask if they were aware that Georgia Fowler was in New York for the shows and whether they might be booking her or not, but as yet I've had no word back. I have a feeling they're in a plane on their way to New York as I write this.

UPDATE: 9/02 Thanks to Courtney for alerting me about this one. There's one other New Zealander over in New York that I seem to have missed in my preliminary scans, Dunedin's Stella Maxwell (pictured above). Repped in NZ by AliMcD and Michael Hooker International, the 18 year old Dunedinite is represented in New York by Trump Models, and has been abroad since November of last year, according to this Otago Daily Times article.

UPDATE: 12/02 Clyne head booker Marama Nichols just emailed me with the news that Mauro Almeida (pictured above) is over in New York right now. I'm not familiar with Almeida so can't say whether or not he's a New Zealander, but as far as I know Clyne is his mother agency so he presumably lives here. A quick Google search showed up a Portuguese footballer born in 1982 named Mauro Almeida... could it be the same guy?
