#340 Children of Vision opening soon!

Despite the fact we're in a massive recession and people are dropping off the face of the business world every which way you look, James Dobson (aka Jimmy D and former employee of the late Stenbeck and Morse) and Vicky Chan (owner of online store General Cucumber) are throwing all caution to the wind and opening up a new store in K Rd's St Kevins Arcade.

You could say the pair have a vision...

The pint sized store (it's only 15 square metres) will house a collection of eclectic and unique clothing, accessories, fragrances, candles, books and magazines, from designers as varied and far flung as A’N’D (London), Bernhard Willhelm (Paris), C.Neeon (Berlin), Commence (Auckland), Hansel from Basel (Los Angeles), Jimmy D (Auckland) and Kitsuné candles (Paris) among others.

“This is about creating the store that we have always wanted in our own city”, says Chan, “We’re creating a place where everyone can find something: from a quirky pair of socks to a special scent to a one off piece from a European designer exclusive to us. We aim to give you butterflies when you walk in!”

“The store is a realisation of both our personal styles: some days I feel like dressing in numerous layers of black, and other days that seems ridiculously serious, whereas Vicky is more offbeat yet pretty in her choices”, says Dobson, “Our selection encompasses that entire spectrum, blurring the line between light hearted whimsy and seriously intellectual – we are not interested in watering anything down”

The store opens on 19 March, with an online store appearing soon after. Check out developments and updates on the Children of Vision blog.

The recession will be solved by bold people who do not behave as though we are in a recession.

Well, seeing how it will be located in Auckland, I can almost guarantee that it will be full of black clothes!

Give them a call, tell them they're dreaming.

Yeah, I got invited to their launch party. So, we'll see what happens. However, I'm just going along to eat their food and drink their alcohol! I hope they'll have plenty on hand, because I'm very hungry and thirsty. LOL! ;)

@5:48PM: Well, let's do some critical analysis of the clothing labels this new store plans to stock. And, we'll see if the Colourful Guy knows what he's talking about.

A'N'D: From from I've seen, they offer goofy t-shirts for summer and a black and grey palette for winter. Score 1 for Colourful Guy.

Bernhard Willhelm: His latest collection for Spring 09 is dominated by a black and grey palette. Score 1 for Colourful Guy.

C.Neeon: Their latest collection is a bit more colourful, than the rest, but still dominated by black. Score 1 for Colourful Guy.

Commence: Can't find out anything about them. However, since they're an Auckland based label, black is all but certain to be their dominate colour. Score 1 for Colourful Guy.

Hansel from Basel: Stockings and tights. Who cares! It's not applicable to this analysis as I looking at clothing, not accessories.

Jimmy D: Well known for doing mostly black clothes. Score 1 for Colourful Guy.

Wow! Colourful Guy scored a perfect 5 of out 5! And, 5:48PM scored 0 out of 5!

Conclusion: Colourful Guy knows exactly what he's talking about! Wooohooohooo! ;)

conclusion Colourful guy is a sponge, - to only go to an opening to drink and eat is just plain rude.....
Not to mention if you have been invited to the opening you must know the new owners - way to be a supportive friend! Those of us in the penguin suits will be going to applaud their Vision!

@10:41AM: No, no, no! *finger waving* Attempting to assassinate your opponents character is an automatic forfeiture in any debate.

You obviously don't know much about the industry from an inside prospective. Because, if you did, you'd know that all and sundry attend to fashion launches and shows. And, that the majority of the attendants aren't there to support what the principals might be promoting and probably don't even know them.

Launches and shows are all about creating hyperbole and buzz around one's products. They're not about friendship. They're about business.

who is this colourful guy? he comes off sounding more like grey rain-on-my-parade sort of guy...
c.neeon & bernhard willhem are renowned for use of colour and pattern!

Well I dunno about YOU but I find it hard to take someone seriously when they say things like "You obviously don't know much about the industry from an inside prospective. Because, if you did, you'd know that all and sundry attend to fashion launches and shows."

@4:01PM: What? Did you think that one had to be "special" in order to invited a fashion launch or show? Please! *roll eyes*

@12:44PM: I'd suggest you check out their most recently offerings then, because they've gone black. However, I did mention that C.Neeon's was a bit more colourful than the rest. Did you conveniently overlook that part so you could focus on my character - which you know nothing about - instead?

Oh colourful guy - one may not have to be special to be invited to a fashion opening one should have the manners to go to appreciate the vision - if you are as 'inside ' the industry as you claim you should know that we go to these things to support as well as hang out with our friends.

Anonymous said...

@2:39PM: Again, my character and manners are not the issue here. And, I'm certainly not going to consider opinions about them from some stranger on a blog.

While you may go to these functions to support and hang out with your friends, others of us have our eye on the bottom line.
