Michael Lett, owner of the self named gallery on K' Rd, has recently opened a quirky little bookshop just a few steps up the road. The shop is called s/f (standing for split fountain), a kooky name for a kooky space. I had no idea this tiny store disguised among the sex shops existed until today, but I'm told it has been really popular. It's only open on Saturdays between 11 and 4 but has attracted quite a gathering of people interested in eccentric art books and unconventional magazines. s/f sells the coolest range of publications mostly from Europe and America such as BUTT magazine, Daddy magazine, Prix Choc (Michael's own publication), Wonder Years and Fantastic Man.

I love the unpolished interior of the store. The books are displayed in piles on the industrial scaffolding and the brightly coloured chairs look well loved.

These posters were done by Sandra Kassenaar. They were inspired by the noises made by the troops of ancient Athens going into war and by the battle cries made by Xena. They sell for $30 each.

Michael informed me he was particularly fond of this magazine called PINUPS. It folds out to become a massive poster of a (somewhat hairy) naked man!

This is the little Japanese inspired out back area. It's still under construction but what a delightful place to sit and have a coffee. I'm not exactly sure how this fountain works, I think Michael said it's broken - perhaps this was the inspiration lending to the name of the shop?

Michael, despite looking great, refused a photo, but I managed to get one of Sam. He's a miniature sized pug and one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen. If only my pug was this puppy faced, slim and attractive.
