#359 If you don't know, now you know LIGGA

When I first moved to Auckland as a thugged out 18 year old (I was a hustler, but not to the point where I couldn't wear a hot pink belt AND be carried around by my sister), the place to go to for Hip Hop was 4:20 on K Rd. You could go Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights and the club would be banging, the shawties pop drop and lockin' and the playas leaning back. Then about four years ago everybody started getting into The Strokes and rock n roll music and nights out lost their gangsta appeal. Well Halleluja and thank the Lord, Boo u Whore DJs are bringing back the beat this Thursday with Biggie Night, a party to celebrate the release of Notorious B.I.G.'s new biopic, Biggie on from 8pm at DOC bar, K Rd.

Bust out your inner thug, dust off the err force ones, pull out those B ball singlets from the back of the closet and come bump and grind! There'll be drink specials, double passes to the movie awarded to the most ghetto fabulous outfits and a selection of Auckland's most tricked out DJs: T-Bones, Andrew Tidball and Pebbles Hooper. Biggie will be number one on the playlist so I'll leave you with this to get you in the mood...

And don't forget to tune into the Boo u Whore DJs for special prizes tonight!

Unfortunately, Biggie, for all his success, never escaped from the ghetto mentally. It was always evident in the language and attitudes that he projected through his music. And, in the end, thuggin' came back to haunt him, in the form of a violent gun death.

I can not, and I will not, glorify and celebrate the lives/deaths of gangsta rappers. I don't buy their music, and for the most part, I don't listen to it either. They pretty much destroyed what was mostly a positive, fun loving and inspirational art form (i.e. Hip Hop). And, turned it into something ugly, abusive and dysfunctional; something that glorifies violence, death, drug dealing, homophobia and sexism.

Yeah, I understand that they're rapping about what they've experienced in the ghetto. And, life there can be quite difficult and tragic. However, I just can't stomach listening to them.

Hmmm....'Colourful Guy' should keep his opinion to himself

That... was the most amazing thing ever.

Penguin guy needs to relax, though. I'm sure if he had even worn a hot pink belt his sentiments wouldn't quite be the same.

@7:03PM and 11:01PM: If you don't like my opinions then don't read them. Does someone having a different point of view, from yourselves, really threaten you that much? That's a rhetorical question. I have no interest in your answers.

As long as Isaac accepts my comments on this blog I'll continue to post them, if, when and where I feel like it. ;)

I love a Colourful Guy Drowning in a Sea of Penguins.

He adds a much needed dose of cynicism to isaac likes.
Although I L is growing on me more and more.

(Yes alternative views are hated upon, hence the choice of Anonymous for most bloggers)

@1:05PM: Thank you. However, I don't consider myself to be cynical really - more of a realist. I'm just not as awe and star struck as the average commentator here seems to be. However, since I'm probably quite a bit older than the average here, I've seen and experienced more. And, because of that, I know nonsense and hyperbole when I see it.
