Natasha Richardson, daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, wife of Liam Neeson and actress from films such as Maid in Manhattan and Parent Trap, died earlier today after suffering a brain injury from a skiing trip in Canada on Monday. Neeson issued a statement saying:
"Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
The thing that stood out for me the most when I heard about this a few hours ago was the irony that Neeson now finds himself in the same situation as his character Daniel in Love Actually. Apologies if that's in poor taste but I just can't get it out of my head.
The last time I saw Richardson was on a lovely British cooking show where she was making food with her mother. I can't begin to imagine how she's feeling now.
It just goes to show, this world is a transient place. Who knows when we're going to go?
