#560 Sweater Quest - first stop, Fabric

Sweaters are 100% without a doubt my favourite item of clothing. Nothing else comes close. I love crew necks, vee necks, merino, cashmere, cableknit, you name it, if it's a sweater, I love it. I wear knitwear everyday of the week. Most often a Comme Play or Lacoste sweater but I'll occasionally swap out a vee neck for a cardigan depending on how I'm feeling. You'll never see me knitless. So with that in mind, I've decided to go on a quest. A Sweater Quest. My goal: to find the best sweater in the world.

First stop, Fabric.



I love the classic feel of a blue and cream striped sweater, it's about as timeless a piece of knitwear as you can find. This one's by S.N.S. Herning, a Danish knitwear brand established in 1931. They specialise in knitwear for fisherman - which explains the four buttons on the shoulder. Easier to get out of when you're wet. Each piece is from a specific year - this sweater was created in 1979 and hasn't changed since.



This was the only cashmere sweater in store, it's by the New York based label Gilded Age. They produce everything in Japan. While I loved the feel of the cashmere, this sweater was a bit wide in the body for my liking.



This one is by Comme des Garcons Homme Plus. It has the same stripes on the rib and cuffs as a marooon Comme Play one I have, it's just missing the heart. My dad thinks I'm crazy for paying so much for something just because of one little feature like a stuck on heart, but there's something about that little logo that I can't seem to live without. When I'm in Paris later this month the entire Colette store is going to be a Comme des Garcons pop up store complete with a Play section. I'll be in sweater heaven.



This zip up sweater is also by D.N.S. Herning. It was designed in 1947. I'm not a big fan of zips on things but I thought this one was kinda cool.



This blue and cream stripe sweater is by Steven Alan, an American designer who specialises in laundered, worn in clothing. They say his shirts look best after they've been squashed up in your suitcase for three days. I love his stuff but the shapes are always a bit short and boxy on me.



Fabric has started making their own cardgans - they're similar to the Comme Play ones in the button/button holes but they're longer and have a deeper vee. I recently bought one in red. I like it how the colours are slightly odd - this one is Japanese blue, it's a bit lighter than a normal navy. The one I bought is like a paprika red.



This cardigan is by Steven Alan. Once again it's too short and boxy for me, and the stripes are a bit too rugby-esque. I like rugby stripes if they're blue and white but blue and red doesn't work for me.






These two are by Dries Van Noten. I love the shape and the two pockets in the front. The top one is made out of a super light weight sweat shirting. I prefer the aubergine knit. It's just like something my Grandad would have worn.



And we couldn't do a post at Fabric without including a little Comme Play. This one is modelled beautifully by store worker Kirk.

BEST IN STORE:
The blue and cream striped S.N.S. Herning sweater with the four buttons at the shoulder. I love its history, its heavy, scratchy wool and its sweet slim shape.
