#693 The Sartorialist - "I'm pretty good at the sex. And pretty good at picture taking."

Remember how Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist was in Toronto last week getting all up close and personal with (slash terrified by) my best good friend Andrew Nicholas McCann Smith? The meet and greet I spoke of was actually a publicity appearance held at Holt Renfrew (Canada's Bergdorf Goodman/Smith and Caughey's) for Schuman's new book, named, appropriately, The Sartorialist. I have a copy sitting right next to me and it is probably the greatest style reference book I've ever seen. If you're a daily visitor of the blog you'll recognise all the photos, but it's amazing to have them all compiled in hard copy form. There's even a little Kiwi cameo in there - Trelise Cooper's son Jasper appears on page 243. Back to Toronto though, an interesting interview Scott Schuman did with Amy Verner of Canada's The Globe and Mail started doing the online rounds yesterday.

"I'm pretty good at the sex. And pretty good at picture taking. That's about it. [My girlfriend] Garance is pretty happy. And the hotel-room neighbours are pretty pissed. You can write that; that's totally fine with me."

"I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. It shoots high-definition video even though I haven't figured out how to do that. But I'm still really good in bed."

"I don't make a lot of money from [the site], but I do make enough to buy very good suits."

"I have a weakness for surprises. I want to see something I haven't seen. I'm totally ambiguous sexually when it comes to my work. I shoot what I'm attracted to."

"Even though it's my site, I don't show up on it that much. But yeah, people recognize me. All the time."

"Tell me more about how skinny I am. Do you think I look better with short hair or long? You can tell me about my butt. What do you think? It's nice, right?"

"Every rapper says if I was not doing this, I would be in jail. And basically, I'm a rapper, only I'm a photographer. So if I wasn't doing this, I would definitely be in jail."

My interview with Schuman has been pushed back two weeks. I wonder if he'll be this entertaining with me? I can only hope.

I LIKE YOU!
