You know you're in for a good time when the presentation you've just walked into features an all-girl band (The Like), dancing freshmen, mean girls whispering catty nothings into each other's ears and models making out. For Fall 2011 Rachel Antonoff took it back to the homecoming dance, and every classic high schooler was in attendance.
Spectacled geeks in tartan minis and sweaters danced awkwardly while wallflowers in velvet looked on, glumly twirling their hair. A couple of naughty girls spiked the punch but the Homecoming Queen didn't notice; she was too busy slow-dancing with her King, who was letting his hands do all the talking. And audience participation at a fashion show took on new heights when the band played Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. For a moment, the dance floor erupted.
A designer can run the risk of outshining their own clothing with so much visual entertainment, but Rachel Antonoff seemed content to just show everybody a good time. She delivered the goods, and the cool kids all showed up: Alexa Chung, The Cobrasnake, Susie Bubble, Rumi Neely, Julia Frakes, Tavi Gevinson and Cory Kennedy were all in attendance. It's still early on in the piece, but I think it's safe to say that Rachel Antonoff officially threw the best day-party of the week.
