#1929 Lawrence Schlossman: "Menswear dudes are nerds too, let's not get it twisted"

One of my favourite menswear bloggers (and a guy I feel proud to call an occasional email acquaintance) – Lawrence Schlossman aka L.A.S. aka SartoriallyInc aka HTTTGAP – was interviewed by GQ Eye a couple of days ago about Tumblring, hip hop and his own personal style philosophy: Anglo-Italian. Like the interview states, the guy gives a great sound bite, and here are a few of his best.

On starting his Tumblr:
"I started it sometime in 2010, the specific time frame is escaping me at the moment. It was supposed to be a supplement to my long form blog, Sartorially Inclined, but, as this interview kinda proves, has since eclipsed it in popularity. Regardless, my manic personality and varying interests yield themselves best to Tumblr anyway."

On the relationship between menswear bloggers and hip hop:
"Short answer - this generation of white kids from suburbia apparently has limited interests. Long answer - we're all nerds at the end of the day. When you think of stereotypical nerds they are obsessed with sci-fi, comics, action figures, the list goes on. Menswear dudes are nerds too, let's not get it twisted. Not necessarily in the traditional sense, but nerds nonetheless. So, we nerd out about sportcoats, shoes, watches, and rap music."

On his own style:
"Anglo-Italian style is simply a mixture of aesthetics from two different traditional ways of dress. As you spend more time thinking about menswear you naturally are going to pick and chose what you like and what you don't like. This combo is simply what I've determined I happen to like. An oxford cloth cutaway collar shirt is a good example for those shaking their head going, "what the hell is he talking about?". A good friend of mine, who was dressing like this long before anyone I know, called finding that marriage his "sweet spot". It's interesting, and awesome, to see a lot of guys finding their own similar sweet spot. Myself included."

On what he's wearing right now (like, as he's answering the interview questions):
"A Boglioli navy sportcoat, Run of The Mill cutaway collar blue oxford cloth shirt, RRL washed denim ("dad jeans") and Cerbero blue suede double monks. I subscribe to a pretty serious uniform, but I'd rather be classic and understated at the end of the day. Oh yeah, and boring. To me, that's being well-dressed."

The man.

I LIKE YOU!
