My first big job of 2013 was directing the shoot for Barkers' new suiting collection. The boys have been polishing their formalwear up over the past few seasons, and the time had come to launch it to the world. Fun fact with no statistical backup whatsoever: Most Kiwi men don't own a suit. We're a nation of shorts and jandals wearers, and I often think the classiest thing your average New Zealander has in his wardrobe is a celebratory All Blacks jersey commemorating the 2011 World Cup victory. I kid, but seriously, it's the truth. Funny thing is, since Barkers developed this new slim-fit suit, they've literally been selling out across a tonne of different cloths and colours. Who are these suit-buying-men and why didn't I see any of them when I was back home for Christmas!?
Back to the shoot itself: We rented a studio in Chelsea, hired everybody's favourite Canadian photographer Liam Goslett, and even picked up an intern off Twitter, who dutifully steamed jackets, pants, shirts and ties straight out of a couple of massive FedEx boxes, for six hours straight. Thank you, Emily!
On a sad note, Tom Bull wasn't available this time around, so we had to go with Wolverine; a hirsute-yet-handsome alternative.
These are the results. Peruse the looks online at The Barkers Suit Shop immediately (there are 11 to choose from), and BUY BUY BUY!
